Type-Author
I tested out lots of variations of
hand drawn type for the authors name
as I had done with the title of the book.
I tried to keep it within keeping of the
previous type I had done but I am yet to
choose which ones I am going to work
with so I need to look at all the
type together and see which I think will
work best with the illustrations
and together on the front of the book.
These are the types I like the best for
the authors name, but I will need to see how
they work in connection with the title text.

Duvet Pattern
I am going to be digitally printing onto fabric
for the children's duvet design. I have create a
pattern from the character designs that I have done.
I am going to keep the background colour white,
and I am also waiting for some pillow covers to
arrive which I think I am going to screen print
on as part of the range.
Filled Type
I scanned in my type and filled them in on Photoshop,
there are definitely some that work better than others and some
that I prefer to others.
I am going to look at the ones I like with the illustrations
and start laying out the book covers and also looking
at colour palate.

Wind in the Willows Drawings
I drew some extra components to go with
the characters to go on the wallpaper, and other
designs, I thought about things that would relate
to the wind and the willows, things that would
be found by the river and then toad's car and
ratty's boat.
I have coloured them the same was as the characters,
using photoshop and not having any outlines,
I am now going to work on some repeat patterns
so I can digitally print onto fabric.

Design Context Presentation
This morning I had my design context presentation, it was a really useful
thing to do as I felt like it made me focus on what it is I want and need to
do for this brief.
Over easter I want to have all the information I need collected so that after
easter I can start to design and make my final outcome.

Character Development-Ratty
This is my character design for Ratty,
he is a more laid back character
who lives his life on the river in his
boat, I tried to represent that in this
choice of outfit.
I just need to work on Mole
now and then the basic characters
will be done and I can start to work with
designing products and variations of each
character.
Character Development-Badger
The nest character design I have worked on
is Badger, he is in similar clothes to
Toad but a bit more relaxed and casual.
His design happened a bit quicker than
Toad, he came together pretty fast.
Here he is coloured in, I liked the colouring of Toad on
Photoshop so I did the same for Badger, I have also
put the characters together to see how they work
as a set as they will be used together on some
of the designs.
Roll Wrap
I printed the roll wrapping paper today,
I printed it onto A1 paper and then wrapped it
around old paper rolls.
I then covered the roll in clear cellophane,
I need to print off the pricing labels to stick
on but overall I am happy with how they
have turned out.

Character Development-Toad
I have started working on the
character design for the Wind in
the Willows, the first character
I have looked at is Toad,
I looked at images of the actual animal and also the description of
the Toad character itself, from that
I have developed this identity for him. I have drawn him bu
hand and tried colouring him in
ink and digitally.
I think I am also going to try
watercolour.
I have tried two different ways of colouring
digitally, one on Illustrator and one on
Photoshop. On photoshop I have got rid
of any outlines, I personally prefer this version,
I think I am going to try this out with
the other characters.
Wind in the Willows-Possible Range
I have brainstormed all the possible outcomes that could be
created for this brief, the actual penguin design award deadline is on
the 9th April so the book cover designs must be done by then, but I
am aiming to have completed the whole brief by this time.

Dinosaur Card
The right part for the dinosaur card
arrived so the dinosaur card has finally
come to life! This brief is now nearly complete,
apart from a few finishing parts to do next
week I am going to move on from it.
I am going to photograph it all next week
to and then I get get my boards done and printed
for it.

Greetings Cards Branding
I decided to call my range Honeycomb cards
because fo the honeycomb center that makes
the cards unique.
I found this typeface that is made up of honeycomb
shapes and has a bee on each of the letters.
It is childlike and fits with the range as it is a
ranged for children.
I also based the logo on a honeycomb, putting
different bits of information in each of the shapes.
After playing around with a few
different stocks and colours I decided
to go for this design. Using a honey
yellow as the background and antique
white as the main part.
I have applied the logo to the gift wrap
sets but I am also going to apply
it to the cards and bags.
Final Cards
These are the final cards (minus the
dinosaur as I am having some issues
with that one at the moment)
I am pleased with the outcomes, I have almost
finished the whole range, but after today
I am leaving this brief and moving on, coming
back to do some finishing touches when I
have a print slot next week.
