Brief 10- An Illustrated Guide To...

I want to create an illustrated guide to a seaside town, possibly
Blackpool, Scarborough, working with the sites and places in the towns as
inspiration, using colour schemes and typefaces that are in the towns
in my publication.
From that I would also make a range to products to go with it, including
pull out maps, note books,  etc.
I want to move away from the standard guide books and reflect
the joy and jovial feeling of going to the seaside in the guides
themselves.

These illustrated maps of London are the type of thing I want
to design for this brief,

Brief 3-YCN Ellas Kitchen

This brief is a bit different from my other briefs, but it is still designing
for a children's product. It would allow me to apply illustration to packaging
design so would still be using the skills I want to develop during my FMP
just in a different deliverable.

Brief 5-Children's A-Z Book

I want to design and publish a children's alphabet A-Z book,
it will be aimed at young children aged around 1-3 years old, I want to work
with different print methods and make it something tactile and interactive
for young children, so they engage and learn with the book.
Looking at methods such as flocking and foiling to create different
textures and surfaces.
It will also give me an opportunity to research into design for children,
what they engage with and repsond too which is something I am interested
in but yet to explore.

Brief 2-YCN UK Greetings

This is one of this years YCN briefs, to design a range of at least 4 greetings cards for UK
Greetings. I propose that I would also expand this brief further, making a range of products
based on the greetings cards, possibly stationary, wallpapers, ceramics, upholstery etc...

Brief 6-Secret 7"

The 7 music artists are inviting creatives to design the artwork for a seven inch vinyl sleeve inspired by one of their songs. The project culminates in 700 one-of-a-kind vinyl sleeves displayed in a gallery in East London during the weeks leading up to Record Store Day. On that day, each of the vinyls will be available to purchase with all of the profits going to charity.

Between 30-50 winners will be selected. One copy of each design will be produced
and exhibited in East London for over a week in April.

30-50 designs will be selected by and printed on a Secret 7’’ vinyl sleeve which will be exhibited and sold at the gallery. Each winner will also receive:
  • An A3 print on which will be their design and a certificate of their involvement in the project
  • Exposure for their artwork both online and in the exhibition space at the UK’s largest independent creative agency, Mother
  • One design will be picked by Clash magazine and featured in their June edition

I have yet to decided which artists I will design for, I have narrowed it down to
either Nick Drake or Laura Marling, these are both of the songs the cover would be for,

Brief 5-Over the Hills and Far Away Competition

This is the layout of one of the spreads that will be in the book. This brief
would allow me to apply my illustration, and get into children's books without
having to design a whole book which is good to start me off and its something
I am recently becoming more interested in. If my work was to be selected it would
also be an amazing opportunity to get my work out there in a publication alongside
renown illustrators.

Brief 4- Book Collaboration with Niall

This is going to be one of my fun briefs for my FMP,
Niall and I have worked together in past projects, in Inpress and
during college, so we know that we work well together and we have different
skill sets to bring to a brief.
This brief really came about from a silly drawing but we realised we could
take it further and actually turn it into a full brief. It started
from last term when I drew a picture of Luke at the end
of last term and put it up in the studio,

We then came in one morning and four more drawings had be done
and added to the wall,

Fred said people should add to wall, creating a whole range of different
drawings of Luke, this gave Niall and I the idea to create a book of Luke,
sending a photo of Luke to as many people as we could, everyone and anyone,
all over the world, famous people, artists, politicians, the possibilities
are endless.
This brief gives us lots of different opportunities and skills to work on,
thinking big is one by seeing how big we can make it, networking by talking
to as many people as we can, book binding when we put all the images together
and layout.
It will also be a fun brief that can run through the whole of our FMP.
